April 2013 Favourites!

April 2013 Favourites

Hello Everyone! Today I have a quick post on some of my favourite polishes and care treatments for the month of April.  This month there were quite a few things that I was obsessing over, and I also had some great finds.

My first favourite for the month was the Julep Oxygen Nail Treatment.  When I received this in my monthly subscription box for February I was not really expecting much, but I was blown away.  It is an incredible nail strengthener and also great on its own or used as a basecoat.

You can read my full review here:

SC Hazard and Essie Tart Deco

My next favourite is the Sinful Colors polish in Hazard.  This polish is practically identical to Essie’s Tart Deco, and it only costs $1.99 CAD.  Not only did it have great application and opacity, but it lasted about four days on my nails without any chipping.

You can see my comparison post with Essie Tart Deco here:

Swatches - Bond Girls

My final favourite for April is the new OPI Bond Girls collection for Spring 2013.  I purchased the mini collection and I was very impressed with all of the polishes included.  I especially loved Jinx and Solitaire.

You can see my full overview and review post here:

I hope you enjoyed seeing a few of my favourites for the month of April.  All of the new products and collections being released for Spring are absolutely stunning, and I definitely recommend checking them out!

I hope you have a great day!

Comparison: Orly Luxe versus OPI Glitzerland

OPI Glitzerland and Orly Luxe

Pointer and Ring Finger: Orly Luxe

Middle and Pinky Finger: OPI Glitzerland

Hello Everyone! Today I have a comparison of two beautiful bright, shimmery gold shades.  The first one we have is OPI Glitzerland, which was released with the OPI Holland collection released in Fall of 2010.  Orly’s Luxe was released with the Foil FX collection, which debuted for Spring of 2010.

Similarities

  • Price (both retail for approximate $8.99 – $9.99 CAD)
  • Both of these polishes are available in the permanent collection

Differences

  • Pigmentation (Orly’s Luxe is much more pigmented and opaque in two coats)

Overall I love a good gold polish, but I do not favour either of these polishes.  I like them both, but I do not feel as though either of them are absolute must haves.  I would recommend going for something like Essie’s Good As Gold over these polishes.

I hope you have a great day!

Spring Polka Dots!

Polka Dots

Hello Everyone! Today I have a fun post on this polka dot manicure I tried out.  This one includes some yellows, purples, and a neon pink shade.  I just used different sized dotting tools to create the look of different sized polka dots.

I hope you have a great day!

NOTD: Orly Glowstick

Swatch - Glowstick1

Hello Everyone! Today we have one of the most neon polishes I have ever seen in my life! Orly’s Glowstick is a fluorescent (highlighter) yellow colour, and it applies that colour without any sort of base colour underneath.  When this polish was released in Summer 2012 with the Feel The Vibe collection I knew I had to get it.  This polish is not only great for a summer manicure, but one of my favourite pedicure colours.

Quality

This polish shocked me when I first put it on.  Usually neons need a white base underneath to really get the full potential, but not this one.  This applied perfectly in two coats, but it does dry matte, so if you like a shiny finish I recommend the Seche Vite Topcoat.

Price and Availability

This polish is now a part of the permanent collection and can be found at Sally’s Beauty Supple.  Orly nail polish retails for about $7.99 CAD.

Overall I would give this polish a rating of 5/5 it is definitely a must have, and unlike anything else I have ever seen.

I hope you have a great day!

Comparison: OPI Mod About You versus Essie Fiji

Essie Fiji and OPI Mod About you

Middle Finger and Pinky: OPI Mod About You

Pointer Finger and Middle: Essie Fiji

Hello Everyone! Today we have a comparison of Essie’s Fiji and OPI’s Mod About You. These are both beautiful, milky light pink shades.  Essie’s Fiji is a permanent polish in the Essie line, and OPI Mod About You was released in the Brights collection for Summer of 2009.

Similarities

  • Price (both retail for about 9.95 CAD)
  • Availability (both are permanent)
  • Application (both are slightly streaky but opaque in two coats)

Differences

  • The OPI shade has a much more prominent pink colour that the Essie one

Overall these colours are very similar minus the slight tone difference.  I really do love them both and they are definitely some of my favourites!

I hope you have a great day!

Spring Swirls – Nail Art Idea

Hello Everyone! So recently I have been having a lot of fun testing out different nail art ideas.  This one was inspired by one of my favourite nail bloggers – MissJenFabulous! (http://www.youtube.com/user/missjenfabulous).  For this nail design I used two coats of white polish (OPI’s Alpine Snow), and two different colors (Essie’s Cascade Cool and Essie’s Avenue Maintain).  I used a sharp pencil to swirl all of the colours together, and I got this effect!

I hope you have a great day!

OPI Bond Girls Mini Collection for Spring 2013

Bond Girls - Bottles

Hello Everyone! Today I have a post based on the mini collection released with the OPI Bond Girls collection.  This collection was all liquid sand colours based on the different women in the James Bond series.

Price and Availability

This mini collection can be found at any store that sells OPI and retails for $14.95 CAD.  This mini collection will only be available for a limited time.

Swatch - Jinx

Jinx (Liquid Sand)

The first shade is Jinx, which is a beautiful bright orange/red with a strong underlying gold shimmer.  This is a liquid sand textured polish, and is a matte glitter.  This polish was opaque in two coats, and dried to a beautiful finish.

Vesper Liquid Sand

Vesper Liquid Sand

The next shade is named Vesper, which is a rich plum purple shade.  This colour did not apply as evenly as the others.  This one was a little thick and did not have a smooth application.

Pussy Galore Liquid Sand

Pussy Galore Liquid Sand

Pussy Galore is a stunning light, baby pink liquid sand shade.  This one applied perfectly and only needed two coats.

Solitaire Liquid Sand

Solitaire Liquid Sand

Solitaire was one of the shades I was most looking forward to.   It is a pearlescent white colour that dries to a matte glitter finish.  This one also only needed two coats and had a great application.

Overall I was very impressed with this collection.  My favourite was by far Jinx, which I thought would be my least favourite.  It was incredibly unique with the strong gold shimmer dispersed throughout it.  Overall I would give this collection a rating of 5/5.  They definitely chose some of the standouts to be in the mini collection, and I was very pleased with it.

I hope you have a great day!

NOTD: OPI Mod About You

Accent - Mod About You

Hello Everyone! Today we have a NOTD post on OPI’s Mod About You.  This polish was released with OPI’s Brights collection in the Summer of 2010, but is now a part of their permanent collection.  In this photo it is paired with Orly’s Tiara – a stunning silver glitter.

Price and Availability

This polish is a part of OPI’s permanent collection, and it retails for approximately $9.95 CAD.

Quality

This polish at first coats is slightly streaky, but after two coats it is perfect.  It is a beautiful milky light pinky/lilac shade which looks great on its own or paired with other colours.

Overall I would give this polish a rating of 5/5 it is absolutely gorgeous and such a classic shade for any person.  It would be not only great for a night out, but very office appropriate as well.  The versatility is endless with this colour, and this pink colour is very classic and girly.

I hope you have a great day!

Nail Polish Canada

Hello Everyone! Today I wanted to introduce to you to a wonderful website for fellow nail polish addicts.  Nail Polish Canada is a Vancouver based company that sells a multitude of different brands, and colours of nail polish and nail polish products.  I have had nothing, but extremely positive experiences with this company.  When I place an order it is shipped within 24 business hours, and it arrives 3-5 business days after.  They do provide free shipping on orders over $25, and a $3 flat shipping rate, and include tracking information as well.  I love that I found a nail polish website that is based out of Canada and I really wanted to share it with all of you!

Here is the website link! (Let them know you heard of them from me if you make a purchase)

Comparison: Essie Mint Candy Apple and China Glaze Re-Freshmint

Essie Mint Candy Apple and CG Re-Freshmint

Hello Everyone! Today I have a comparison of Essie’s Mint Candy Apple and China Glaze’s Re-Freshmint.  Both of these polishes are beautiful light, mint green shades.  China Glaze Re-Freshmint was released with the Up & Away Colelction for Spring of 2010.  Essie’s Mint Candy Apple was released with the Sweet Time of the Year collection for winter of 2011, but is now a permanent shade.

Middle Finger and Pinky: Essie Mint Candy Apple

Pointer Finger and Ring: China Glaze Re-Freshmint

Similarities

  • They are very similar colour and consistency
  • They both apply perfectly within two coats
  • Both are now permanent shades

Differences

  • China Glaze retails for about $6.99 CAD, whereas Essie retails for about $8.95 CAD
  • There is a slight tone difference – Essie’s shade leans slightly more blue toned than the China Glaze one.

Overall I would not say that you need both of these polishes, and I personally prefer Essie’s Mint Candy Apple.  They are both beautiful polishes and both are definitely some of my favourites, but I don’t feel like they are both necessary.

I hope you have a great day!

– Jaimie
